So you may have decided to go green, and start using solar powered lights around your home. If so, then there are some places to use these lights to your best advantage in your outdoor areas. There are different styles of solar yard lights that are suited to the different part of your home. Here are just a few places where you can use some additional lighting.

The entrances, paths and driveways around your home can be enhanced with some solar yard lights. The best type of lights to use here are garden stake lights and solar post lights. If you have some posts already lining your driveway or at the entrance to your home, then the post lights will just sit on the top. If you don’t have any posts, then try some solar stake lights that you just push into the ground. With some of these solar lights placed at the entrance to your property, and along driveways and pathways, you will make it safer for you to navigate at night.

Your gardens and landscaping can be greatly improved with a few solar yard lights as well. You have lots of choices here, but starting with the simple stake lights again is a good move. When placed throughout your gardens they provide a nice ambient glow to highlight your plants and trees. You can focus on particular aspects of your landscaping with some solar spot lights, or use some of the more decorative solar lights and shaped garden ornaments.

On any deck, patio or balcony, solar powered yard lights will allow you to enjoy your outdoor entertaining and dining even more. Simple outdoor string lights can enhance any outdoor area, and provide enough light for your nighttime activities. Specifically designed solar deck lights can also be used to improve safety when walking around your deck at night.

Use solar yard lights to help enhance your pool or playground areas as well. You can simply use some solar spot lights in these areas to provide light, or you can use some of the more decorative solar lights for some atmospheric lights. Floating solar lights look great on the surface of a pool, or use some stake lights around the edge of the pool for reflective light.

You can use solar powered lights in many of these areas around your home to improve visibility and safety at night. You will make your home more attractive and more functional, using lights that are good for the environment and that will save you some money.

This article is brought to you courtesy of the LED Grow Lights Review.

Indoor gardening has long been used by greenhouses and other professional nurseries. It’s now becoming more popular among average gardeners. Some gardeners like to get their plants started indoors and then move them outdoors. Others like growing the plant from start to finish indoors. Growing plants indoor is especially popular in places where the sun is lacking and cold weather is prevalent.

Two Popular Lights for Growing Indoors

There are two types of lights that are very popular for growing plants indoors: LED (Light-Emitting Diode) lights and HID (High-Intensity Discharge) lights. HID lights have been used for a longer period time and they are still the most popular indoor growing lights on the market. LED grow lights are newer, but many people believe that they are positioned to become the #1 selling grow lights in the next few years. Let’s take a look at some of the differences in these lights.

LED Grow Lights Provide Control over Beam Angle

HID lights are a lot like your traditional light bulbs. They shoot light out from a bulb in a 360 degree angle. In other words HIDs shoot light out everywhere and the beam of the light can only be controlled by a reflector of some sort. LED lights are different in that they really have no need for a reflector. The light beam that comes off of the light-emitting diode can be controlled, or pointed, in whatever direction the manufacturer chooses. This means that LED lights are more efficient than HID lights because they don’t have the light being sprayed off in all directions. The light can be pointed directly at the plant. None of the light becomes weakened by having to bounce off of a reflector or a wall.

HID Lights Put Off Heat

HID lights are very powerful lights. Something with that much power is going to put off some heat. The heat on these HID lights is diffused through the light bulb itself. Many first-time HID users are surprised by how hot these lights get. They can raise the temperature in your growing room dramatically if you don’t have a cooling system in place. LED lights on the other hand do not generate much heat. Most people prefer to have lights that don’t generate a lot of heat, but keep in mind that heat isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes it’s nice to have your lights heating up your grow room a little bit.

LED Grow Lights Allow Control over Color

Light from the sun has a full array of colors in it (think about rainbows here). LED lights provide a very unique opportunity in that they can be designed to generate only certain colors (or light wavelengths). This is interesting because many scientists believe that plants only need certain colors of light to grow. For example, experts agree that blue light is very helpful during the vegetative (seedling) stage of the plant’s lifecycle. Experts also agree that red light is most helpful when the plant is flowering. LED lights can be specifically designed and optimized to help plants grow in the vegetative or flowering stage. HID lights are more like the sun in that their light colors cannot be controlled (the shoot off the full spectrum).

Conclusion

Growing plants indoors is becoming more and more common. There are two popular types of lights for growing indoors: LED grow lights and HID grow lights. Some people swear by HID lights while others are just as adamant about LED lights. The main differences between the lights include the way the beam angles are controlled, the amount of heat they put off, and the way colors are controlled by the lights. Hopefully knowing some of these differences will help you conclude which lights are best for your indoor garden.

Designing and installing a truly contemporary garden lighting design can add such a lot to your property including its value. All kinds of homes can be helped by an outdoor lighting design, from smaller homes with their confined outside space to huge country mansions. You can create designs that are useful and the ones that merely impress your friends. But exactly how would you do it to create a unique contemporary style? This can be achieved with a couple of techniques; all that is needed is a little advance planning and consideration to the way the final result will look.

Make use of up to date looking landscape light units for a start. The style and type of the light units alone may influence the complete look of the design. Don’t use the old fashioned lantern style lights or even those common stick in solar powered lights, they simply look dated. Go for smooth designs in chrome or stainless steel. When working with floodlights once more pick out an item that appears nice and modern not the standard dark housing which can be so common these days. Never forget you will see a lot of these lighting units, during the day at least, so the will impact your overall look.

The type of lighting you use may also have an effect on creating the modern appearance. As an example look at LED lights, they create a light effect that just looks contemporary. LED string lights will give just about any patio or garden a contemporary edge. Using some colored lighting fixtures could also produce the desired impact. Colored garden lights can be very effective however care needs to be taken to never mix vibrant colors too much, the results will look really poor. It’s usually advisable to stay with a single extra color other than your normal white light.

An easy technique to help make elements look appealing and contemporary is to use the lighting units in modern ways. Specific methods for producing light effects have been developed, shifting away from the usual light over the door style. Try using up lighters for example to develop a different look. Down lights in addition to recessed lighting fixtures can also be valuable when creating a contemporary look with depth. Back-lighting an outdoor feature is yet another good tip to keep things looking unique. Vary the tactics and styles but try not to over-do it. At times simple and understated garden lighting design ideas are the best.

Whenever you are aiming to come up with a modern look for your garden lighting it is important to avoid the obvious outdated methods of using light. Being a little different may be the secret. Do not forget that something as simple as buying a cool looking, contemporary light product could have an impact on the over-all results. Try using a few of the strategies as listed above and most importantly become a little bit imaginative in your thinking.

A lot of American households have a backyard kitchen as an extension to their homes. Having this extension can be very convenient since it provides additional open air working areas for your kitchen needs. Aside from that, they are very practical since you can use them to entertain friends and family during backyard parties such as Sunday lunch barbecues and other social events. These hobby kitchens can increase your home value as well, especially if they are well integrated and decorated, making your backyard more upscale and beautiful.

Putting up a backyard kitchen needs a lot of planning and preparation to make it as comfortable and convenient as possible. There are several aspects to consider such as the materials you should use and the kitchen location and design itself. You want your backyard kitchen to be able to withstand the different elements of different seasons so you should use materials that can endure bad weather conditions without problems so as to be able to make your backyard kitchen durable and usable all year round. You should also give thought to the orientation and location of the kitchen, making sure to make it as accessible as possible. Aside from this, you should design your outdoor kitchen to look as welcoming as possible, highlighting the best – and most scenic – view that you might have in your backyard. This may be your garden or your pool for example.

Another important factor to consider when designing a backyard kitchen is the fixtures that you would use. You want your backyard kitchen to be upscale so that your backyard and pool parties will be more relaxing and enjoyable. One way to do this is by picking appliances that are not only outdoors appropriate, but very stylish and functional as well. Of particular importance, placing the correct lighting system would be very beneficial in beautifying your backyard kitchen and landscape too.

Having a beautiful landscape will be useless if it cannot be seen. While this is not a problem during daytime, a lot of household owners actually overlook the night time look of their backyard landscapes. Having a good lighting system will not just illuminate your backyard during evenings, but they also help in creating the look and ambiance for your landscape and outdoor kitchen. Using garden lights and strategically placing them in your backyard would help highlight and show off your outdoor patio designs. Aside from this, they are also very beneficial for security and safety reasons.

Another benefit or quality outdoor lighting is that they make the actual food preparation and cooking tasks easier. A well lit outdoor glass door refrigerator is much more pleasurable to use than one sitting in a gloomy corner.

There are a lot of architectural design companies who offer services in designing and decorating outdoor kitchens now-a-days. Some also include lighting installation in their services. In order to bring out the most dramatic and picturesque view in your backyard, it would be best to leave the lighting designs to these professionals since they know how to maximize landscape lighting to bring out the best features in your backyard.

Ever thought about buying patio string lights but never sure if they would give you the effect that you wanted? Let us help you make up your mind.

One of the great features about patio string lights is their ability to really brighten up a concentrated area or a larger space. Many see these great lights as a on-off lighting source for a party or something to bring out of that dust-collecting Christmas decorations box. Times have changed and so have string lights. The designs have become more diversified, now being available in all shapes and sizes. You used to only be able to purchase the boring standard bulbs with the string available only in a handful of lengths. Now, the bulbs come in lots of vibrant colors and you might be pleasantly surprised to hear that there’s a lot more choice in the shapes, including snowflakes, flowers and hearts.

With this in mind, it’ll be a tough decision whether to take those snowflake lights down after Christmas, or the flower effect ones down after a relative’s birthday party. Why not just keep them up and turn them into something more permanent? That’s the great thing about string lights, being able to use them to light up your patio or garden all year round. They don’t have to be concentrated just for where the party is, either. Imagine your whole garden being illuminated by a nice glow of string lights on a crisp spring night, or even on a dull winter’s evening with snow laying around your property, What an effect that would create!

What’s also great about patio string lights is their cost. Being one of the more cost-effective outdoor lighting ideas gives this style of lighting a real boost in the popularity rankings. Couple that with the wide variety of uses that they can be used for and you’ve almost a perfect alternative to having to go indoors as soon as it gets night outside.

It’s easy to see why patio string lights are one of the more popular sources of outdoor lighting out there and now they come in different shapes and sizes, so making your outside area look amazing is a piece of cake.

When trying to illuminate outdoor areas without having a visible trail of extension cords running across the yard, battery operated outdoor string lights can be the ideal solution. Many people like to sit outside on a warm evening and enjoy the fresh air. Perhaps it is a nice dinner on the patio, or sitting around relaxing and visiting with friends; regardless of what you are doing, you certainly want to have enough light to see the person you are talking with.

You could use candles for illumination, but this of course has the risk of starting a fire. Also, when used outdoors, even a small breeze can cause candles that are unprotected to go out. Electric lights typically need an electrical cord, which means you would probably need to run an extension cord. This can create a tripping hazard, plus in the event of a power outage, they certainly wouldn’t be much help. Battery operated lights can easily solve these issues because they have a power supply of their own. This means they can be utilized almost anywhere, even when there is no electricity for miles around.

Of course, private homeowners are not the only ones who can make great use of these string lights. Many businesses will also use these convenient lights for decorative purposes. Most business will need to provide lighting on a much larger scale than a homeowner and will probably find commercial grade outdoor string lights much more practical because they are designed to stand up to the rigors and elements of being mounted on the outside of buildings.

Using lights as a way of decorating property, whether it is private or commercial, can attract a great deal of attention. By nature, string lights are attractive to look at, so naturally people will want to stop and take a look. Many people choose to use decorative outdoor string lights instead of just plain lights on the outside of their property.

Boosts Overall Outdoor Appearance:

Of course, outdoor patio lighting also does wonders as far as working to boost the overall outdoor appearance of your home. Many people have homes that look beautiful on the inside, but not necessarily on the outside. If you want people to be impressed by the outside appearance of your home, investing in a set of garden string lights may be just the thing you need. Obviously, you cannot put them directly on the house itself, but you can use the lights to add effects to your driveways and walk ways, garden, patio, pool areas or anything else you can think of. This also helps to add a little curb appeal to the property as well.

Top Selling Patio Lights:

There are many great patio lights available to you, and more are being invented and manufactured every day. Here are just a few of the top selling patio string lights currently available to you, as well as some features that they offer:

Solar Powered Butterfly String Lights – This set of 20 solar powered butterfly string patio lights are simply adorable and they will enhance the lighting of any patio area, no matter what part of it you decide to use them on. You could even run them across the rail of your deck if you choose to, though you may need to purchase a few more sets depending on the dimensions of your overall deck area. They cost approximately $9, and they are of various colors and great quality.

Overall, patio lighting is something that everybody who owns a house should try experimenting with because it often produces a very elegant effect that both you and your guests will enjoy. Patio lighting is often fairly easy to install (particularly solar options) and can be well worth the investment of both time and money.

There are many different outdoor lighting ideas to consider when planning the perfect garden, driveway, or walkway for your home. Of course, if you get a professional lighting designer, he or she will give you his or her personal opinion about the looks of your home and what sort of lighting design would look best there. If you want a do it yourself moment and want to go all out with planning the ultimate garden, then it may be a good idea to get some know how on lighting design. In this guide, we will provide you with some of the ultimate outdoor lighting ideas that will make your garden truly shine.

Uplighting

One of the best outdoor lighting ideas to use is uplighting. It is a technique that many professional designers use in their everyday work. Simply use some type of light that you can mount on the ground and point it up at an object like a tree, or you can use any other plant or object that you intend to focus on. You can also use this to highlight beautiful fountains and other unique things in your garden.

Downlighting

Another type of lighting that takes the cake when it comes to garden lighting ideas is the use of downlighting. Downlighting is great because if you hook up a set of lights in a tree and point them down at various angles toward the ground, you will get some amazing looking shapes, designs, patterns, and more. Of course, you can also use these to light pathways. Simply place the light on something above the path or walkway you want to illuminate, and then angle them towards the path.

Backlighting

Backlighting is another great form out outdoor lighting design that many people do not think of using, but really should consider. Place the lights between a wall and another object in your garden, and this will give the front object the illusion of being dark. This effect also works well on fences, gazebos, and other unique garden furniture that you may want to illuminate and make look generally spectacular at night.

Shadow Lighting

Yet another form of landscape lighting ideas is shadow lighting. With this method, you use a bullet light to create the desired effect. Place it in front of an object to cast the shadow of that same object onto a nearby wall, the grass, a vehicle, or anything else you can think of. The shadow may look very cool and unique, or it may present some sort of an ominous look. Whatever style you are trying to go for, shadow lighting may help you.

Path Lighting

Finally, we come to path lighting, which simply employs the use of general outdoor lights. Spread out light fixtures across the edges lining both sides of your drive way, walk way, or ramp in order to illuminate the area. Once this is achieved, the lights will make it bright enough for you and your guests to see where you are going, which decreases your chances of falling and injuring yourself.

There are many outdoor lighting ideas, so pick the one that best suits you. With a little bit of time and effort you’ll be well rewarded with an elegant, dramatically lit landscape.

Driveway lights are becoming more and more popular as time goes on. Not only do they serve security purposes and help keep your home safe, but they also add a sense of style to your house. They make the driveway look much nicer and welcoming, as opposed to a home without driveway lights. There are many different ways that you can spruce up your homes appearance using these lights, and in this guide, we will provide you with some ideas on the types of driveway lights to try.

Low Voltage Lights

One of the best types of driveway lights are low voltage lights. While you may need to use wires on your house in order to make the lights work, they still provide you with a decent amount of benefits. There is no danger of being shocked by these lights, because if they go out, then they just stop working, but they won’t shock you due to the very low amount of voltage contained inside of them. Of course, if you want the lights to turn on or off at designated times during the night or day, you will need to rig them up to some sort of motion detector or timer so that they work on command and you don’t have to worry about fiddling with them all day and night.

Solar Lights

Another form of driveway lighting is solar lights. You don’t need any wires to make these work, because most of them operate off of their own separate solar panels, which means that you can even use them in the shady spots if need be. Plus, there will be no additional electrical bills on your home to worry about because the lights are not plugged into your electrical supply. However, these lights do need several hours of direct sunlight in order to receive a good charge and light the driveway for 8 to 10 hours.

Floodlighting

Floodlighting is another method that you may find more helpful than driveway solar lights. These are typically installed right above your garage or somewhere towards the very beginning of your driveway. While it is true that these do provide you with an excellent stream of light, sometimes they let in too much light on your property, and if they are too bright, they can cause drivers on the road to become blinded, which in turn could result in an accident occurring.

Medium Post Lights

There are many great driveway lighting ideas, and medium post lights are no exception to this rule. You will need to buy multiple sets of these to cover the entire length of your driveway, but they do look very stylish and work effectively and efficiently at lighting the whole place. Just place them along the edges of both sides of your driveway, and use the lower watt ones so they don’t bother drivers.

All in all, driveway lights serve many purposes, and there are so many different styles and methods to choose from. No matter what you are looking for in your set of driveway lights, you are sure to find what you seek.
