So you may have decided to go green, and start using solar powered lights around your home. If so, then there are some places to use these lights to your best advantage in your outdoor areas. There are different styles of solar yard lights that are suited to the different part of your home. Here are just a few places where you can use some additional lighting.

The entrances, paths and driveways around your home can be enhanced with some solar yard lights. The best type of lights to use here are garden stake lights and solar post lights. If you have some posts already lining your driveway or at the entrance to your home, then the post lights will just sit on the top. If you don’t have any posts, then try some solar stake lights that you just push into the ground. With some of these solar lights placed at the entrance to your property, and along driveways and pathways, you will make it safer for you to navigate at night.

Your gardens and landscaping can be greatly improved with a few solar yard lights as well. You have lots of choices here, but starting with the simple stake lights again is a good move. When placed throughout your gardens they provide a nice ambient glow to highlight your plants and trees. You can focus on particular aspects of your landscaping with some solar spot lights, or use some of the more decorative solar lights and shaped garden ornaments.

On any deck, patio or balcony, solar powered yard lights will allow you to enjoy your outdoor entertaining and dining even more. Simple outdoor string lights can enhance any outdoor area, and provide enough light for your nighttime activities. Specifically designed solar deck lights can also be used to improve safety when walking around your deck at night.

Use solar yard lights to help enhance your pool or playground areas as well. You can simply use some solar spot lights in these areas to provide light, or you can use some of the more decorative solar lights for some atmospheric lights. Floating solar lights look great on the surface of a pool, or use some stake lights around the edge of the pool for reflective light.

You can use solar powered lights in many of these areas around your home to improve visibility and safety at night. You will make your home more attractive and more functional, using lights that are good for the environment and that will save you some money.

Solar lighting is very popular, easy to fit, very flexible and offers superb value for money.  Its free energy source means you can save a load on your electricity bills compared to low voltage lighting kits.  It will pay for itself in a very short time.  But what is the best way to start laying out the lighting in your garden.

First of all start with the essential solar outdoor lighting you need.  Here we are talking about safety and definition.  Pathway solar lights are a perfect initial purchase.  You can get a set of 12 for around $40 on Amazon no problem at all.  They should already have batteries supplied, which are rechargeable. Lay them out to mark to major access ways which are out of reach of the house lights at night.  It is a great effect to see this magical lit pathway receding into the distance.

Make sure they are tough durable ones.  Get brushed stainless steel as these are quite stylish as well. The plastic ones if in busy areas get broken too easily.  Outdoor solar lighting does need to be practical as well as pretty.  Once you have lived with them for a couple of weeks you will get to know if they are right for you and if you have put them in the right areas of the path.  Falling over in the dark is usually a pretty good test!

So keep it simple and start small and gradual when you are buying your first outdoor solar lighting sets.  Read the reviews you can find and work from there.  Make sure they are good actual customer reviews, or from somewhere that tells it like it is warts and all.  Amazon is a great recourse for this sort of feedback and usually has the best outdoor solar lighting prices as well.
